Message from Executive Secretary and Founder
Dear our guest and donor. Greetings and welcome to Zero Dropouts Tanzania (ZDT).
We are new brand nonprofit and an educational non-government organization with a national scope, founded February, 2024 by educators, parents and social entrepreneurs. The philosophy of ZDT is grounded on the belief that all students have the ability to be successful in education and life regardless of their background or financial situation.
Zero Dropouts Tanzania want to change the perception that, school dropout is a normal occurrence by demonstrating what is taken to help school children to complete their education cycle. Despite Tanzania’s large investment in basic education, around 300,000 school children who are in schools in our country will exit the schooling system before finishing matric each year. According to Tanzania Mainland administrative data on education (BEST) in 2022, BEST shows that 329,918 students dropped out of schools. The consequences of young dropouts are not employed or are not even in labor force. They are engagement in high risk behavior such as premature sexual activity, early pregnancy, delinquency, crime, violence, and alcohol and drug abuse. The vivid example is emergence of youth criminal groups in cities and towns in our country popularly known as “Panya Road and Ubaya Ubaya”. These boys aged between 13 to 21, are robbing peoples of their properties using traditional weapon of knives and machetes, leaving dozens injured, they also reportedly raided houses and looted properties, including mobile phones, and TV set. The five (5) major reasons are put forward to explain why students drop out of school; the student themselves, the families that they come from, the school that they attended and the teacher’s that they have.
Zero Dropouts Tanzania understands that children and schools are embedded in communities and require comprehensive, full-service solutions. We strive for collaborative approaches – paired with strong partnerships in order to create sustainable solutions.
